'Reject wind farm'

Aberavon AM Dr Brian Gibbons has reaffirmed his opposition to plans to build a wind farm in the Afan Valley.

Dr Gibbons visited a recent exhibition by Gamesa on its wind farm proposals at Croeserw.

Dr Gibbons said: 'I attended the event and spoke to many local people - none of whom support this particular project for a number of reasons.

'Virtually all the people I spoke to recognised the need for action against climate change and very many accepted that wind energy has a role, but the development has to be undertaken in a sensitive way.

'The Gamesa proposal, which would involve 600ft turbines located well within a mile of the estate and in the direct eye-line of very many residents, was regarded as unacceptable.'

Because the scheme could generate more than 50MW of power it will have to be decided by the DTI.

'It is my intention to make my wishes known, that this project needs to be rejected as it stands,' Dr Gibbons added.
