Our Campaign

A Brief History

Glyncorrwg Action Group was formed in 1993 to fight against the proposed wind farm by Ecogen at Blaencorrwg, above the village of Glyncorrwg. We put up a very strong fight against this proposal for 45 turbines. Following a massive campaign involving Councillors, MPs, MEPs, Environmental Organisations and having gained huge media coverage in newspapers, on radio and TV, the proposal was turned down in Feb 1994 by the then Port Talbot Borough Council.

However, Ecogen reapplied, this time for 36 turbines, 180 feet high and our fight went on. In Nov 1994 the Council turned down the second proposal and the firm then said they would appeal against the decision. We continued our work and finally in May 1995 we learned that no appeal had been made and our fight had been won!

Since then the Group has continued to work on other environmental issues and on ways of bringing improvements to the community.
